Thoracic Medicine is concerned with the study and treatment of diseases of the lungs and the surrounding organs in the chest. 
Akdeniz University Hospital has the expertise and facilities to investigate, diagnose and treat nearly all of the common thoracic diseases, including: Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Pneumonia and other lung infections, Tuberculosis, Lung Cancer and other lung tumours, Pleural Diseases including pleural effusion and pleural tumours, Sarcoidosis, Asbestos Related Diseases, Pneumoconiosis, Lung Fibrosis, Alveolitis, Unexplained Cough and Unexplained Shortness of Breath.

Services Offered:

• The lung functions are measured through spirometer within respiratory function unit.
• Dermatological prick test is applied in diagnosis and treatment of allergic lung diseases.
• Some of lung diseases particularly lung cancer may early be diagnosed through fiber optic bronchoscope in our endoscopy unit.
• Brain, eyes and muscle activities and respiratory and heart functions are recorded during night through polysomnography device in our sleep laboratory. With this test snoring, breath pausing (apnea), heart rhythm disorders in sleep are measured.
